Basanta Panchami is the day when winter ends and spring starts (January-February) and the goddess Saraswati is worshipped on this day. Regarded as the goddess of knowledge, she is worshiped as the source of all intelligence and creativity. Her blessings are the source of innovation and knowledge. She is also believed to be the most beautiful creation of Brahma. People regard this day as a good one for starting a new enterprise. In Bhaktapur, people visit Sashwodega where the idol of the Buddhist deity Mahamanjushree is kept. Though Hindus regard this god as Saraswoti and worship it as such, Buddhist worship it as Manjushree.
